The Morning Post: Ziltoid The Omniscient

Good morning, all! It's a bit of a late one for me (as usual), but anyway! Mornings, as you may or may not know from yesterday morning, are my outlet for un-related posts, which could be about anything, really. And today, the post is on Ziltoid The Omniscient! The solo project by Devin Townsend, whom you may recognize as the founding member of Strapping Young Lad.



Personally, I love this album, and have listened to it well over 30 times in the past two weeks. As a matter of fact, I'm listening to it as I write this!

The plot of the album revolves around the omniscient extraterrestrial being, Ziltoid, who has visited the planet Earth and is demanding the universe's ultimate cup of coffee (black) within 5 minutes, or else he will destroy the planet and everyone in it.

The protagonist, Captain Spectacular, and his intrepid crew do their best against the forces of Ziltoid when the delivered coffee does not suite Ziltoid's tastes. The twist at the end of the album will make you cry with joy and elation, but I won't give it away!

If I haven't mentioned before, the album has its roots in metal, and Townsend definitely puts the best of his talents into this album. Everything blends together amazingly, even with the narration that is thrown in once in a while to aid the plot. You can imagine everything that's going on vividly, and you'll most likely have a few of these songs stuck in your head for a while!

There is so much variation in the songs, and it really is like a rollercoaster of different feelings, but, again, it all comes together perfectly. The album will have you understanding the idea the Devin Townsend is truly a mad genius.
